Cedar - An environmentally-sound choice
  • Renewable resource.
  • Recyclable.
  • Biodegradable.
  • Energy-efficient manufacturing.
  • Variety of usages.
  • Rated environmentally friendly.
Renewable resource - Today's sustainable forestry practices ensure a perpetual abundance of cedar from B.C.'s forests. Cedar substitutes like concrete, vinyl and aluminum are manufactured from materials extracted from the earth - once removed, they can never be replaced.

Biodegradable - When non wood substitutes age beyond their useful life, they become part of landfills. As a natural product, Western Red Cedar is fully biodegradable.

Energy-efficient manufacturing - Substitute sidings require huge amounts of energy to manufacture compared to cedar siding. See Energy Efficiency

Uses - Wood is the best environmental choice for structures of all types - hockey arenas, libraries, offices, community centres and much more.

Rated environmentally friendly - As the interest in "Green Building" grows, building rating systems such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) have emerged as one way to rate the environmental impact of construction. These rating systems are founded on the four guiding principles of green building. See Four Guiding Principles
